The airport almost every Galapagos trip begins and ends at, a runway laid by the United States Air Force in 1942, and the ferry channel across to Santa Cruz: Baltra is flat, dry and roughly twenty-seven square kilometres. Its land iguanas were wiped out during the war years and later brought back from North Seymour, where a population had been moved in the 1930s. Seventy-nine of our itineraries touch Baltra across 16 ships, from $1,530 per person, on trips of 3 to 14 nights.

Baltra is a transit island, not a visitor site. The calls in the list below are arrivals and departures, not landings, and there is no trail and no guided walk. It is here because so many itineraries begin here, not because there is something to see.
