About Chinese Hat

A volcanic cone shaped closely enough like a hat to be named for one, a narrow channel between it and Santiago where the water stays clear, and penguins and white-tipped reef sharks patrolling that channel: Chinese Hat is barely a kilometre across and made of loose lava that crunches underfoot. The cone last erupted recently enough that almost nothing grows on it. Thirty-three of our itineraries call here across 11 ships, from $1,797 per person, on trips of 3 to 14 nights.

One visitor site, and the landing is a wet one onto a small beach. The channel snorkel is the better half of the stop, but it closes when the swell comes from the north. Chinese Hat is normally combined with Sullivan Bay on Santiago in the same day.
