Blowholes throwing spray thirty metres up the cliff at Punta Suarez, the entire breeding population of the waved albatross, marine iguanas that turn red and green in the mating season: Espanola is the oldest island in the archipelago and the flattest, worn down over four million years. Gardner Bay is a white beach with a sea lion colony and no shade. Forty-four of our itineraries call at Espanola across 15 ships, from $1,530 per person, on trips of 3 to 14 nights.
The albatross is on Espanola only between April and December. From January to March the birds are at sea and the island is a different trip: the cliffs and the mockingbirds stay, the colony does not. The month matters more here than on any other island.
