About Floreana

A wooden mail barrel in continuous use since 1793, Devil's Crown standing as a ring of rock in open water, flamingos in the brackish lagoon behind Punta Cormorant: Floreana was the first island in the archipelago to be settled, and the human story here is as strange as the wildlife. Asilo de la Paz holds the caves the earliest settlers lived in, and the Baroness Lookout is named after a woman who vanished in 1934. Six visitor sites, and no single departure calls at all of them. Devil's Crown is a snorkelling site with a current strong enough to close it in poor conditions, and the highland sites need a separate landing at Puerto Velasco Ibarra. Which two or three you get is set by the itinerary approved for that week.
