A beach the colour of rust, a saltwater lagoon behind it that draws flamingos in some months and stands empty in others, and cliffs of the same iron-red rock above: Rabida owes its colour to lava unusually high in iron, oxidised where it meets the air. The lagoon is the reason to come and the reason to keep expectations low: flamingos use it irregularly, and in a dry year there may be none at all. The beach and the snorkelling off it are reliable, the birds are not.
